Alexander Blank is a composer and multi-disciplinary artist based in Montreal, Canada. He earned degrees (BM: Composition; MM: Composition) at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he studied with Don Freund, P.Q. Phan, Aaron Travers, Claude Baker, and Sven-David Sandström, as well as computer and electronic music with Jeffrey Hass and John Gibson. He pursued additional studies at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, studying with Melissa Hui.

His research interests include microtonality, spectral and set theory, process-based music, psychoacoustics and timbral cognition, and modes of performer agency within fixed compositions.

In addition to his work as a composer, he started a small music preparation firm that provides services from copying and engraving through session/ensemble librarianship and publishing, and has become in-demand as a photographer as well.

His opera, Memoirs Found in a Bathtub, based on an adaptation of Stanisław Lem's novel, is in development.
